Duration of program
54 tuition weeks and up to 6 weeks of holidays, and 100 hours of work placement.
Learning and assessment
Training, learning and assessment activities include:
  • Class sessions; students will attend one day a week at their suburban Campus and the other day a week in the City Campus.
  • Homework /self-directed learning
  • Work Placement totalling 100 hours
  • 6 weeks holidays
Entry  Requirements
The qualification guidelines state that there are no formal pre-requisites or entry requirements for this program, but Yorke Institute requires that applicants:
  • Be 18 years old
  • Hold a current Police check to undertake a work placement
Applicants must also:
  • Complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment to demonstrate that they have the required level of LLN skills required by the course.
  • The LLN test will be conducted by a suitable Trainer and Assessor.
  • Students must receive a satisfactory result before enrolling in the course.
  • The LLN assessment includes a written test and interview to complete the verbal component of the test.
  • The LLN test assists Yorke Institute to assess whether or not students’ LLN skills are at a level suited to the course requirements. It also assists our trainers to prepare individual learning plans for each successful applicant where skill weaknesses are identified. The RTO will work with successful applicants to ensure their skills are at the required level by the completion of their training.
  • Applicants must attend a selection interview as part of the enrolment process and demonstrate an interest in, knowledge of, and suitability for work in the community service Industry. This interview will be held on Zoom or other software.
This course is available to domestic students who can provide evidence that they 18 years old and above.
  • Have completed Year 12 education or
  • Have satisfactorily completed an appropriate Certificate III or IV level qualification, which demonstrates the student’s readiness for entry to AQF Level 4
Where the student does not demonstrate the above entry requirements, the student is advised to consider an alternative lower AQF level course.

What kind of placements centres will I be working in?
Tthere are a range of settings you can work in for placement experience including Youth and Family Help Centres.
What are the issues that we would typically be exposed to during placement?
The issues could include providing support and advice on the health and safety of clients, legal compliance, ethics, case management, family violence and abuse matters. You will work under supervision in dealing with client’s needs and within a safe environment
Can I finish the course earlier?
If you have a Credit Transfer from another course or are currently working within the industry, you could commence the placement sooner and finish the course earlier if you meet course requirements.
Is this course free?
If you are eligible for funding you don’t have to pay anything towards your tuition fees. If you’re not eligible, you may still study for free if you’re eligible for Jobtrainer.
