The Engineering Education Australia (EEA) Professional Year Program in Engineering was developed to equip international engineering graduates from Australian universities with the skills and experience they need to become job ready and to empower themselves for a rewarding career.
Yorke Institute is an approved and licensed provider, fully endorsed by the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) and the Engineering Education Australia (EEA) to offer the Professional Year Program in Engineering.

A Program Run by Engineers for Engineers
Yorke’s PY Program is run by engineers for engineers. The Speakers Circuit is designed and spearheaded by the Director of Yorke Institute, Mr Dinnesh Anamalay, who is a Fellow Chartered Professional Engineer for the PY Program. The circuit enables PY students to access highly qualified engineers with decades of multi-disciplinary professional experience and to learn from the best in the business.

Internships

The 12 weeks professional work placement will provide you with opportunities to apply your university learning in the real world, to acquire new skills in your engineering discipline and grow your industry network.
We ensure that each host company understands how best to assist you to achieve your professional development goals and our aim is to ensure that all our engineering candidates are successfully placed into a professional work placement related to engineering.

Entry Requirements and Application Process 

To qualify for the Professional Year in Engineering Program, you must have completed an undergraduate or postgraduate award in Australia for Engineering;
  • hold or applied for a Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485, either stream) with at least 12 months validity or;
  • hold an eligible Secondary Visa with work and study rights with at least 12 months validity;
  • have at least a PTE-A score of 50 with nothing below 36 or IELTS score of 6.0 with nothing below 5, in all 4 competencies or equivalent;
  • provide a valid skills assessment from Engineering Education Australia.

FAQs

Who can apply for the Professional Year in Engineering program?
Recent graduates of Australian university courses who have applied for or been issued a Skilled-Graduate (Temporary) 485 Visa, or a Bridging Visa A or B, and nominated an Engineering ANZSCO Code for migration purposes.
You must also have undergone a successful Migration Skills Assessment through Engineers Australia to be applicable for entry into the Professional Year program.
Other visa holders that are eligible to apply for the Professional Year are Skilled Recognised Graduate visa (476) and Secondary visa holder of other visas (457/ENS/RSMS/Labour Agreement)
My visa expires in 1 year but I have more than 44 weeks on it, can I do the program?
No. You must have a minimum of 12 calendar months remaining on your visa from the commencement date of the program. For visa eligibility for the program, please visit the Department of Home Affairs site at www.homeaffairs.gov.au
Australian citizens and permanent residents who are also recent graduates may also apply for the program. Please be advised that the Professional Year is full-fee paying and HECS does not apply.
How is the Professional Year in Engineering structured?
The Professional Year in Engineering provides practical training and workshops as well as access to learning and career development tools and methods.
The program is designed to enhance your ability to obtain employment in your chosen discipline by applying your technical skills and knowledge in the Australian workplace. Once you join the program you will automatically become a Professional Graduate Member of Engineers Australia and engage in ongoing networking events, opportunities and professional development programs.
The program includes 32 weeks of structured learning with face to face delivery at Yorke’s classroom with qualified trainers and an invaluable 12 weeks (unpaid) supervised engineering intern placement with a hosting company.
Will Yorke assist me with finding a placement?
Yes, Yorke assists students in finding a suitable placement with host companies. The host company criteria includes providing supervision and having engineering work related to the area of study and engineering field.
What is the benchmark that has to be achieved to graduate from this course?
You must meet the 100% attendance requirement unless you have a medical certificate or compelling reason for your absence. You must achieve competency in all units and complete 12 weeks of mandatory placement as set by EEA standards.
Do I have to bring my own device?
With the increased use of educational tools throughout the Professional Year Program in Engineering coursework, participants will need to bring their own device (e.g. laptops, tablets) during training sessions in order to fulfil work-simulated activities.

  • Operating System: Windows 8 Home Edition or later
  • Processor: Intel Core i3 / AMD 2.0 Ghz or better
  • RAM: Minimum 4 GB, recommended 8GB
  • Hard Drive: 128GB SSD (256GB SSD recommended if not using Cloud storage)
  • Display: 13 inch full HD (1920 x 1080) with a built-in webcam
  • WiFi: 802.1x compliant
  • USB Headsets with microphone
  • Device must be fully charged
