Yorke Institute will organise all work placement hours for you at various prestigious child care facilities.  This will be conducted in an actual operational child care facility so that you will be able to interact with skilled staff and children. This interaction will provide you with a greater depth of understanding and knowledge of how the facility operates. Yorke Institute has chosen facilities that have ongoing employment opportunities that may result in employment for students who successfully complete their qualification.

We provide relevant advice and learning direction

A pre-training review to assess course suitability and entry-level for each individual will be conducted. This may result in a recommended learning pathway to help you meet course-specific requirements and any other prerequisites.

We offer guidance and support

We support you with resources that will enrich your learning experience and support successful completion of the course which may include:

Yorke will provide additional support for any students experiencing:

Additional support services to students will be provided where it is necessary to enable students to participate in the same way as any other person regardless of whether support services have been required. Where there is perceived difficulty in achieving learning goals, the trainer will discuss these issues with the student. The student will be provided with information about possible alternative pathways, additional tools and resources available, and options and choices for accessing a supportive network. The information provided will vary depending on the individual needs of the student.

Program Completion Requirements

  • You will be required to attend all scheduled classes, work placements and submit assessments in a timely manner and achieve competent results for all units in order to receive your qualification.
  • To achieve this qualification, you must have completed at least 240 hours of work placement.

Duration of program
50 weeks (including 40 tuition weeks with up to 10 weeks of holidays)
Learning and assessment
50 weeks is broken into time for training, learning and assessment activities. This includes:
  • Class sessions of approx. 14 hours for the first week
  • Homework of approximately 11 hours per week is required. Homework tasks are monitored, and student will be expected to complete these to ensure they can progress.
    For International students Up to 6 hours of this time is counted towards the scheduled course hours as distance work they are expected to complete.
  • Work Placement of at least 8 hours per week x 30 weeks work placement and holidays totalling 240 hours.
Selection Requirement
There are no formal entry requirements set by the Training Package for this course however for admission Yorke requires the following evidance:
  • 18 years old and above
  • have a current Working with Children Check or apply and receive one within term 1 of the course (work placement begins in term 2)
  • current Police check to undertake work placement
  • You must have completed the following 11 units as part of a CHC30113 – Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care or equivalent through Credit transfer or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) arrangements to enter this program:

LLN Assessment
Applicants must:
  • Complete a language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment to demonstrate that they have the required level of LLN skills required by the course.
  • The LLN test will be conducted by a suitable Trainer and Assessor
  • Receive a satisfactory result before enrolling in the course.
  • The LLN assessment includes a written test and interview to complete the verbal component of the test.
  • The LLN test assists Yorke Institute to assess whether or not students’ LLN skills are at a level suited to the course requirements. It also assists our trainers to prepare individual learning plans for each successful applicant where skill weaknesses are identified. The RTO will work with successful applicants to ensure their skills are at the required level by the completion of their training.
Applicants must attend a selection interview as part of the enrolment process and demonstrate an interest in, knowledge of, and suitability for work in the childcare industry. This interview will be held face to face in the campus for local domestic or by Skype or other video conference for students who can’t attend due to distance;
Be able to undertake a work placement at a regulated early childhood education and care setting working with children between the ages of 0-6 year.
 Delivery Mode
Blended with online learning and face-to-face practical tasks in a classroom based setting. There is also self-study and completion of a 240 hours work placement at an approved workplace.

Program Units

The Diploma Early Childhood Education and Care requires the completion of 15 Units ( including 12 core and 3 elective units). Yorke Institute has pre-selected the following electives that students will complete. In addition, to achieve this qualification you MUST complete at least 280 hours of work placement as detailed in the assessment requirements of the units of competency

You could complete the CHC62015 Advanced Diploma of Community Sector Management and the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education after completing the Diploma program
I have completed Certificate III in ECEC. Will I be able to complete the Diploma in a shorter period of time?
Yes, there are many units in Certificate III that cross over to the Diploma courses. Therefore you will be entitled to a credit transfer for those units. The Diploma course alone can take up to more than one year or approximately the units in Certificate III ECEC.
What are the requirements for placement?
Placement is an exciting opportunity for students to apply their practical and theoretical knowledge learnt in class in a real work environment . But it’s important for students to be fully prepared and respect the placement provider’s policies and the needs of residents. Prior to commencing your placement, you would be required to demonstrate competency in units that cover WHS, communication, working in diverse environments, etc. A Police Check and Work with Children(WWC) must be provided to your trainer before you commence your placement
Will I get help in finding placements?
Yorke is committed to finding you placement with our own partner providers so you can finish your course. However if you have a preference to work with a particular childcare centre, you must provide us with the details of the supervisor or centre manager so that our Course Coordinator can contact them to secure your placement. Should this be your preference, we would encourage you to start contacting your preferred provider and providing us with the details as soon as you commence your course as placement spots are taken up very quickly.

Are there any specific industry /enterprise or licensing requirements for this qualification?
The Australian Children’s Education & Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) is an independent national authority whose role is to educate and inform the wider community about the importance of improving outcomes in children’s education and care. ACECQA guides the implementation of the National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education and Care nationally and ensures consistency in delivery.The National Quality Framework (NQF) sets out minimum qualification requirements for educators working in children’s education and care services. ACECQA lists the approved qualification for Diploma level. From 1 January 2014 in all state and territories, for birth to pre-school ages, 50 percent of educators required to meet the relevant ratios in the service must have, or be actively working towards, at least an approved diploma level education and care qualification.
